This summer, I've been making more of an effort to really be out and about in NYC. Sometimes, during the hottest times of the year, I just want to curl up on my bed in front of the AC . Butttt, what fun is that? None. So for the days and weekends I am in the City, I want to be out in it as much as possible.
Last month, #DancingMan & I went to the Big Apple BBQ Block Party. Some of my friends had gone to this in past summers, and I always thought it would be so fun to go. I woke up to a text from some other friends that were there, and we immediately headed downtown.
The streets around Madison Square Park close down, and BBQ tents and pits take over. The beer gardens were housed on the north & south sides of Madison Square Park, and the BBQ was in the surrounding streets.
The food was so, so good! We had heard good things about Salt Lick BBQ from Texas, so we had to try their brisket & sausage. The sausage was ah-mazing, but I wasn't as impressed with the brisket as I was hoping.
We tried some pulled pork from Mississippi, ribs from Pappy's Smokehouse in St. Louis, Missouri (which were surprisingly my absolute favorite), and more ribs.
#DancingMan LOVES BBQ, so it was a real treat for him to spend two full afternoons eating BBQ in the sun.
What other activities in NYC would you recommend?
