Everyday for the past 2 years, I've walked down 53rd between Broadway and 8th. For those of you not familiar with that street, it's the back entrance (where all talent is ushered through) of Roseland Ballroom, Studio 54 and David Letterman. This 1 avenue stretch of concrete has literally seen more stars (and probably fights, drugs, and papparazzi) than probably anywhere in NYC (besides maybe Times Square). David Letterman is now leaving, so who knows who (or what) will fill that building. Studio 54 shut down long before my time (though now there is 54 Below, which is supposed to be wonderful). And now, Roseland Ballroom just closed its doors with Lady Gaga (what better entertainer to close with than LG?).
I'm sure no change will be in effect until the end of the year (or longer), but gone are the production trucks, NYPD silver gates for containing fans, various musical crews, and all random events that have happened on that otherwise quiet bystreet.
Let's just hope that the Roseland painting will stay intact!
